The PS5 September 2026 Release Calendar Is Genuinely Absurd

Wolverine on the 15th. Silent Hill and Control on the 24th. Onimusha on the 25th. One game already fled the month entirely — and it was probably the right call.

September 2026 on PS5 is not a busy month. It is a pile-up.

Here is the confirmed slate.

Date Game Notes
15 September Marvel's Wolverine Insomniac. Limited Edition PS5 bundle same day
24 September Silent Hill: Townfall PS5 console exclusive for at least 6 months
24 September Control Resonant Global PS5 launch
25 September Onimusha: Way of the Sword Capcom. Demo already available

And immediately after, in early October:

Date Game
2 October Ace Combat 8
29 October Phantom Blade Zero

The 24th is the problem

Two substantial games on the same Thursday, one of them a returning horror franchise with a six-month PlayStation console exclusivity window, and then a Capcom action title the following day.

That is three major releases in 48 hours, all competing for the same attention, the same review coverage and — crucially — the same finite player hours. Horror and character-action audiences overlap heavily. Somebody in that cluster is going to be under-served, and it will not be decided by quality.

The game that ran away

Phantom Blade Zero was originally scheduled for 9 September. It moved to 29 October, announced back on 2 June.

Reading the calendar above, that looks less like a delay and more like an evacuation. S-Game got out of a month containing a first-party Marvel release, a Silent Hill, a Control and an Onimusha, and took a date where it is the only significant thing releasing.

The trade-off is that late October puts it in the run-up to GTA 6 in November, which the developer has publicly shrugged off — the position being that they will focus on their own game rather than the competition. Given the alternative was launching six days before Wolverine, it is hard to argue they chose wrong. Pricing is confirmed at $59.99 / £54.99.

What this means if you are buying

Three practical observations.

Pick two. Realistically nobody finishes four major releases in eleven days. Deciding in advance which two you actually want beats buying all four and bouncing off three of them.

Wolverine has the clear run. The 15th is nine days clear of the cluster, which makes it the easiest to actually give attention to. Details in our Marvel's Wolverine piece.

Onimusha has a demo out now. Capcom released it back in June, which makes it the only game on this list you can evaluate before spending anything. Take the free information.

For trophy hunters specifically

A congested month is genuinely bad news for completion planning, and worth thinking about now.

Four launch windows in eleven days means four sets of launch-window trophy conditions arriving at once — and any of them that involve online components, seasonal events or population-dependent activities are best done early, while player counts are high. That is not a concern for the single-player titles here, but it is worth checking each list at launch rather than assuming.

The more useful point: rarity percentages on launch-window platinums move fast in the first weeks, and a month this crowded splits the player base across four games. Expect unusually low completion rates across the board — which, if you care about rarity, makes September platinums more valuable than usual. We explain how that works in PlayStation trophy rarity explained.

All dates verified 26 August 2026. Release dates move — we will update this page if they do.
