This article is about a rumour. Sony has not announced a State of Play for September 2026. No date is confirmed, no games are confirmed, and everything below the first section is speculation attributed to people who are guessing.
We are writing it because the speculation is circulating widely and being reported in places that are not labelling it clearly. Here is the honest version.
What is confirmed
Sony held a State of Play on 2 June 2026. That event produced real, dated announcements: Silent Hill: Townfall for 24 September, Onimusha: Way of the Sword for 25 September with a demo released the same day, and Control Resonant for 24 September.
That is the entire confirmed portion of this story. Everything after this line is not confirmed.
What is rumoured
A 3 September date has circulated on forums. It is unverified, was not sourced to anyone with a track record, and community reaction has been notably sceptical of that specific date — the general read being that Sony probably does hold something in September, but that the day itself is invented.
Treat "3 September" as a guess that acquired a number.
Why an event is plausible anyway
Independently of any leak, the reasoning is not unreasonable:
- Sony has historically held a showcase in the autumn.
- September 2026 is an extraordinarily dense release month, and Sony has games shipping into it.
- The company has an obvious commercial interest in changing the subject from the disc controversy and the ongoing player boycott.
That last point is worth sitting with. A well-received showcase is the most effective tool Sony has for shifting the conversation, and it would be surprising if that had not occurred to anyone there.
The speculation list, clearly labelled
Games that people think might appear, with no confirmation whatsoever from Sony or the publishers involved:
- Crimson Desert
- Resident Evil Requiem
- 007 First Light
- A new Devil May Cry
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3
Some of these are unannounced games. Some are announced games without dates. None of them have been linked to a September event by anybody with verifiable information, and at least two appear on every rumoured showcase list regardless of what is actually shown. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
How you will know it is real
Sony announces State of Play events on PlayStation.Blog, typically one to two weeks in advance. The June event was announced on 20 May for a 2 June broadcast — thirteen days.
That is the pattern, and it is the only signal worth watching. If a date is circulating and PlayStation.Blog has not posted, it is not a date. When Sony announces, it will be on the official State of Play page and on the blog, with a time and a runtime attached.
Until then, this remains a rumour, and we will update this page the moment it stops being one.
Reported 26 August 2026. Nothing in the rumour section is confirmed by Sony.
